The Secretary of State for the Digital Economy, Pedro Lopes, representing the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, brought the 2nd edition of the EMPRESA EXCELÊNCIA initiative to a close on Friday 28 November, in the main auditorium of TECHPARK, in the city of Praia.
Pedro Lopes presented the “COMPANY EXCELLENCE 2024” awards, together with representatives of the organising body (BTOC), Nádia Cardoso and Pedro Andrade, to twenty-five Cape Verdean professional accountancy firms that demonstrate financial strength, good governance, social responsibility and strategic vision.
The ceremony marked the second edition of the initiative and reinforces the national movement to promote competitiveness, management quality and corporate sustainability.
During his closing address, Pedro Lopes stated that this ceremony symbolises the national unity that is so eagerly sought. “The government, the private sector and the financial sector are all pulling in the same direction, working towards the development of Cape Verde and the improvement of our business environment.”.
The minister noted that we are living in a time of rapid change, in which the world stands still for no one and the global market is becoming increasingly digital, competitive and demanding, adding that Cape Verde’s response to this situation lies in strong, modern and resilient companies.
“This certificate and award is not merely an honour; it is a tool for enhancing the quality of our business sector, a mark of trust for the banking sector, for investors and for businesses, and a genuine driver of economic transformation that encourages transparency and innovation,” he said.
The Secretary of State noted that Cape Verde is growing, emphasising that the country is welcoming an increasing number of tourists, and stressed that this momentum requires public and private institutions to respond with excellence, adding that, for this to be possible, it is essential to motivate staff.
Pedro Lopes concluded his speech with a message of appreciation for the Excellence Award. He expressed the hope that the leaders present would recognise the value of their staff within their organisations and honour those who stand out the most.
He emphasised the importance of fostering a culture of greater meritocracy in Cape Verde, by identifying the best people, motivating them and enabling them to serve as an inspiration to others.
The event brought together the Government, the private sector, financial institutions, international partners, universities and other organisations, symbolising the national consensus on improving the business environment and corporate performance.
