The first edition of PRรvinho โ the International Wine, Beverages and Agricultural Products Fair โ officially opened this Friday, 28 November, at Casas do Sol in the city of Sรฃo Filipe, at a ceremony attended by government representatives, local authorities, international partners, producers and stakeholders from the wine sector.
The session featured speeches by the Secretary of State for Communities, Vanuza Barbosa, representing the Minister for Tourism and Transport, Josรฉ Luรญs Sรก Nogueira; the Executive Director of ITCV, Vรขnia Rodrigues, the Mayor of Sรฃo Filipe, Nuรญas Silva, and the CEO of Infoplus, Carlos Morgado.
The speeches highlighted the strategic importance of wine tourism for the countryโs economic diversification, as well as the unique potential of the island of Fogo โ characterised by its history and resilience โ to establish itself as a leading destination on the international market.
Following the opening session, the delegation toured the exhibition stands in the hall, where producers showcased wines, drinks and agricultural products, providing an opportunity for professional networking and business promotion.
The first day of the event also featured the first PRรvinho 2025 conference, on the theme โPromoting the Fogo/Brava Region in the Context of Oenologyโ, bringing together experts, producers, winemakers and representatives from various organisations to discuss the regionโs potential for winemaking.
The panel discussed the distinctive characteristics of the Fogo and Brava varieties, the impact of geoclimatic conditions on wine production, and the opportunities for establishing the regionโs wines in the domestic and international markets.
The conference also provided an opportunity to examine the challenges faced by producers, including sustainability, innovation, certification and product standards.
The speakers emphasised that the region has unique characteristics that can give local wines a competitive edge, underlining the importance of research, promotion and ongoing investment in the sector.
PRรvinho 2025, organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Transport in partnership with Infoplus, will take place from 28 to 30 November, with activities in Sรฃo Filipe, Chรฃ das Caldeiras and Mosteiros, featuring conferences, wine tastings, technical visits, cookery demonstrations and networking opportunities dedicated to the sector.
