Mothers who are heads of households, domestic workers and students are at the heart of the government’s efforts to guarantee the right to decent housing and promote social inclusion.
As part of the Habitat Regeneration Programme (PRH-Praia), the Minister for Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing, Victor Coutinho, carried out a site visit today, Tuesday 30 September, to several social housing units that have been refurbished and completed in the city of Praia, and handed over the keys to some of the beneficiary families.
The occasion was marked by expressions of deep satisfaction and appreciation, highlighting the direct impact of these public policies on improving families’ living conditions.
Among the beneficiaries, one young student stands out; upon receiving her home, she emphasised the importance of this programme and highlighted that this achievement means she can complete her studies with peace of mind and security.
The PRH-Praia scheme directly benefits families classified in groups 1 and 2 of the Single Social Register, contributing to social inclusion, the enhancement of the local area and the strengthening of community cohesion.
This initiative demonstrates, once again, the Cape Verdean Government’s firm commitment to improving people’s quality of life and to building more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities.
More homes are nearing completion and further handover dates are scheduled, consolidating the results of this important housing programme.
